Fitness Goals

If you’ve poked It All Changes you’ve probably seen that I’m a big fan of goals.  From my simple weekly goals, to my yearly goals to my 101 goals in 1001 days.  What can I say…I’m a huge futbol soccer (soccer for you yanks) and always want to yell, GOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLL!

When it comes to fitness my goals are constantly evolving and changing.  Exercise and overall fitness are one of my favorite ways to challenge myself.  I spent 24 years avoiding fitness at all costs and now my day isn’t complete without it.  Days are super stressful around here and fitness gives me a way to blow off steam and stay on track to avoid more surgery.  I know the surgery is coming but fitness will help me put it off as long as possible.

Running is my drug exercise of choice.  I’ve run many 5K’s since starting in 2006 as well as a 5 mile race and a 10K- Quarter Marathon

With running my goal has always been to improve.  With each race my time has been better and better.  I think I’m going to run a marathon.  My calf had other plans.  I tore it in my last race and have been rehabbing and revamping my workouts.

These days my workouts are less run with the wind and more get it in however I can.  I’ve become a big fan of the pool and the bike.

Okay I only like the bike if I’m going somewhere.  I love riding around town but hate if I’m riding the bike to nowhere.  Netflix makes it all better!

With my calf being a pain my current goals are scaled back.  No longer looking for a marathon…I’m looking to make it to the starting line of my Turkey Trot.

Beyond that I’m looking for consistency.  I was always able to keep up with running to prove I was no longer the fat girl who couldn’t complete the mile.  This always pushed strength training and cross-training to the back burner.  The only problem is I need both to push back the future back surgeries I will need to have.  My surgeon promised if I keep my muscles strong I won’t need surgery until 50 instead of 40.  I’ll take an extra 10 years before adding another scar.

Consistency means creating a schedule and sticking to it.  Joining a gym with classes to try and a pool I can use…even a pool with classes.  Creating a gym in my spare bedroom and using it when I don’t want to leave the house.  Overall consistency means finding an external reward for keeping my goals until the internal benefits are enough.  Perhaps iTunes downloads or fun new gadgets?

I’ll be back to running 5K’s and 10K’s soon enough, but I need this time to build up my other fitness goals.  I want to be well rounded in life so why not in fitness.  I just don’t want to be round Smile
